Rebecca Oldfield

Bishopsland Fellow 2018-2020

Rebecca is a Cardiff-based contemporary jeweller and a graduate of the Cardiff School of Art & Design with a BA (Hons) Artist Designer: Maker degree.

Rebecca amalgamates traditional and modern techniques; fusing metalwork, handicraft, computer-aided design, and digital production techniques to create her pieces.

Material exploration and experimentation inspire her; styles and notions from the past, as well as structures and patterns found within micrographic imagery, inform her work.

Rebecca utilises her background in applied art and 3D design to fashion her tools for both texture and purpose. For her larger works, Rebecca creates wooden masters for her forms. Rebecca’s larger pieces are finished using contrast polishing and display enlarged hallmarks, which are often used for decoration or on her boxes for alignment. She predominantly uses chasing and repoussé to create the decorative elements of her designs but also embraces other decorative processes if they lend themselves to her designs.
