Samuel Hemmett

Bishopsland Fellow 2018-2019

Samuel is a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh College of Art.

Working with precious and base metals, Samuel’s sculptural objects, silversmithing, and jewellery render structure and movement within a static frame. Rhythm, repetition, and movement; Samuel attempts to capture motion in a fixed state.

Exploring structure by abstracting vibrations and undulations found in waveforms has underpinned his current work. These structures allow him to encapsulate movement and flow through strong lines and shapes.

Utilising the relationship between positive and negative space is also a way of representing movement in a striking graphic manner.
